Subject : Tithe

I know I am no longer under the law, but under grace. We give to our church as we think we can afford at the present time. Are we as Christians still required to give a tenth of our income or is giving as we think we can afford satisfactory?
Will appreciate what your input is on this.
 Thanks. Clay and Sara

Hi Clay,

I'm Bruce, one of the folks who help with the e-mail, here at the
Paraclete Forum.

The short answer is that you are correct. Since we are under grace and
not under the law, the 1/10th requirement no longer applies. You can
give 1/10th, but then that gets into 1/10th of your tomatoes, corn, and
other garden produce, since if we try to keep any of the Law, we are
required to keep all of it.

I know that I would be hard pressed to ante up 1/10th of whatever grows
on my place. I just don't keep track.

So, that leaves this provision:
Each one must do as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under
compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. [2Cor 9:7.21]

So by all means, cheerfully and willingly give what you feel that you
can. Money, time, produce, things, they are all God's anyway, so share
what the Spirit will have you share with joy.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards,
Bruce
